Jingu Update 25 April 2006

Hello! Our current stock is currently either sold or on hold, but our new stock is coming in May 2006. We will be customizing more high quality blades from Oni Forge. This time around we will be recieving a few very special items.

One is a replica of a blade of the lay-priest Kotetsu. Kotetsu's swords were famed throughout the Edo period and graded as having "supreme sharpness" by the shogun's sword tester and executioner Yamada Asaemon.

The next features a geometry many will be familiar with. It was originally created by the swordsmith Kiyomaro, whos swords were said to be so good at cutting that the general Kato Kiyomasa granted the prefix "Kiyo" to the swordsmith's name. This particular geometry was most famous throughout the Nambokucho era. Our Kiyomaro replicas are heavily weighted with an o-kissaki and a large groove.

Also arriving in our new shipment will be a kogarasu-maru replica, a double sided sword with a tachi-like curvature made by Amakuni during the Heian era.

In other news, our base model, the Tombo katana has been upgraded to the Bushi katana, a hand forged, 1070 steel blade and clay tempered for a beautiful hamon. It's differential heat treatment allows for a harder edge and softer spine, which leads to durability and long-term retainment of the blade's edge.

Our new website is underway! The new website will be up in early May, and a link will be posted on this blog when it is completed.

As always, all of our blades will be fully custom and one-of-a-kind. For more information, or if you have any questions about Jingu Swordshop, please email Jinguswordshop@gmail.com. It is also possible to request a theme and pre-order blades from Jingu. Please let us know!

Thanks for looking!

New! Tameshigiri Videos

Many thanks to Peter James and all of his students from the School of Japanese Swordsmanship in Western Australia!

Last night we had the opportunity to take footage of Oni Forge's 1050 model in action during the dojo's practice cutting session.

The new videos should be available on the web shortly, please look forward to it!

These models were also previously tested and filmed in California on tatami omote from the Mugen Dachi Company. This medium simulates the density of human limbs for realistic tameshigiri.
